Message from the Prime Minister of Canada
I solemnly offering my greetings to those in
attendance at the Buddhist Association of
Canada’s Cham Shan Temple for the funeral of
Master Sing Hung.
The Most Venerable Sing Hung was first ordained
in 1938 and had a storied history in Buddhism. He
played a critical role in its establishment in Canada
– as the founder of the Buddhist Association of
Canada and as founder of the Southhill Temple
and Cham Shan Temple. A Queen Elizabeth II
Diamond Jubilee Medal recipient, he was
instrumental to Buddhism’s positive effects in
communities across Canada.
Master Sing Hung truly embodied Buddhist teachings, and lived a life of
compassion, mindfulness, and inclusivity, fueled by his endless love, kindness,
and wisdom. He transformed countless lives and strengthened Canada’s
multicultural identity, in addition to fostering a deeper understanding and
acceptance among diverse communities. He leaves a legacy of profound
spiritual and cultural significance and leaves future generations with the
guiding light of his incredible life and enduring contributions to our nation.
On behalf of all Canadians, I extend heartfelt condolences to his followers, his
community, and all those whose life he touched. May his memory continue to
inspire and bring enlightenment to those who carry on his vision.
Please accept my solemn condolences on the passing of Master Sing Hung.
